When sump pumps are the right answer

Sump pumps are needed when gravity drainage can't move water away from a property:

  • Low-lying lots where there's no downhill slope to a daylight outlet
  • Marsh-edge properties (Ponte Vedra Beach, parts of Mandarin, Atlantic Beach, Fernandina) with high seasonal water tables
  • Crawl-space flooding during heavy rain or storm surge
  • Underground stormwater systems that need to discharge against grade or over distance
  • French drain outlets in flat-grade properties

Most NE Florida residential drainage projects can be solved with gravity systems (extensions, French drains, dry wells). But about 1 in 8 lots can't, and on those, a properly designed sump system is the only durable answer.

What we install

Gutter Pro installs three sump configurations:

  • Standalone yard sump — buried basin with submersible pump and discharge line. Handles surface water and shallow groundwater. $1,800-$3,500 installed.
  • Crawl-space sump — interior basin under crawl-space floor, sealed cover, submersible pump, discharge through foundation wall. $2,500-$4,500 installed.
  • Integrated stormwater sump — French drain or yard drainage system terminating in a sump basin with discharge to street, drainage easement, or off-site. $3,000-$7,000+ installed depending on volume and discharge distance.

All installs include:

  • Properly sized submersible pump matched to peak flow and head height
  • Solid-state float switch (no rusted-tether mechanical switches)
  • Check valve and union for service access
  • Discharge line routed to compliant outlet
  • Battery backup option (~$400-700 add-on, strongly recommended for storm-power-loss scenarios)

Critical: battery backup

Sump pumps fail the most when you need them most, during summer thunderstorms that knock out power. Battery-backup systems run the sump for hours on a dedicated AGM battery when the main breaker is out. For coastal NE Florida properties (Ponte Vedra Beach, Atlantic Beach, Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island) this is essentially required.

We install Zoeller and Liberty primary pumps with their compatible battery-backup pairings.

Why install sump pumps with Gutter Pro

  • NDS Certified Professional Drainage Contractor. Trained in stormwater system design including pump sizing and discharge engineering.
  • Pump sizing matched to peak flow. We calculate GPM requirements rather than installing whatever's on the shelf.
  • Battery backup standard recommendation. We won't quote a primary pump without offering the backup.
  • Discharge designed correctly. Many failures we see come from undersized discharge lines, check valve issues, or noncompliant routing.
  • Lifetime workmanship warranty.

FAQs

How much does a sump pump installation cost in Jacksonville?

Standalone yard sumps run $1,800 to $3,500 installed. Crawl-space sumps run $2,500 to $4,500. Integrated stormwater sumps with French drain systems run $3,000 to $7,000+ depending on volume and discharge distance.

Do I need a battery backup sump pump in Florida?

Yes for any property where flooding has serious consequences (crawl space, low-lying yard, coastal property). Florida summer thunderstorms regularly knock out power; that's when your primary sump is most needed. Battery backup adds $400-700 to the install.

How long do sump pumps last?

Quality primary sump pumps (Zoeller, Liberty) typically last 7 to 10 years. We use submersible pumps with solid-state float switches and stainless or cast-iron impellers. Routine inspection annually extends life.

Can a sump pump go outside in a yard?

Yes. Standalone yard sumps are common for marsh-edge and low-lying lots. The basin is buried, the pump is submersible, and the discharge line routes to a compliant outlet. The cover is solid-state and weather-rated.
