Why half-round copper is quoted as a range

Half-round is the one profile where the bracket decides the price. Which bracket the roofline calls for, whether the hangers run interior or exterior, and how decorative they are can move the number more than the copper itself does. A plain interior hanger and a cast decorative exterior bracket are not the same job. That is why half-round is quoted from $40 per linear foot and up rather than at a single number.

Copper is a traded commodity, so the material cost changes month to month. How a Copper Install Works

  1. Free on-site walk. Albert measures the home, evaluates drainage, photographs architectural detail for the fabrication shop, and writes a clear scope. Typically scheduled within 48 hours of your call.
  2. Detailed written quote. Profile, gauge, hanger spec, downspout count and profile, soldered detail callouts, drainage scope. Itemized.
  3. Historic review or HOA submission if your property requires it. Many historic districts and luxury HOAs require formal approval for any exterior change. We provide samples, datasheets, and product specs for the packet.
  4. Copper lead time. Copper coil, custom downspouts, and soldered fittings require a longer lead time than aluminum. Allow two to four weeks from contract signing to mobilization on most copper jobs.

How long does copper last?
A properly installed copper gutter system lasts 50 to 100 years. The copper itself is essentially permanent. Service life depends on hardware compatibility (stainless or copper fasteners only), soldered joint quality, and drainage performance. Aluminum hangers or galvanized fasteners on copper will trigger galvanic corrosion and shorten lifespan dramatically. We do not allow that.
How much do copper gutters cost vs aluminum?
Copper typically runs three to four times the cost of painted aluminum for an equivalent linear footage. What is the patina process and how long does it take?
New copper installs as a bright penny color. Within six to twelve months it darkens to a deep bronze. It is not a defect, it is the material doing its job.
Do you offer pre-patinated copper?
Yes. Factory pre-patinated copper is available in brown and green-blue verdigris finishes for clients who want the aged look from day one. Pre-patinated copper carries a premium over standard copper. Most Jacksonville historic district projects use standard copper and let the natural patina develop, but pre-patinated is available on request.
Can copper gutters be painted or sealed?
Technically yes, but we recommend against it. Paint and sealants prevent the natural patina from developing, then peel and flake over time, requiring perpetual maintenance. The whole point of choosing copper is the material itself. If a client wants painted gutters, we recommend painted aluminum and save them the cost of copper.
What hangers do you use with copper?
Stainless steel or solid copper hidden hangers, at 18-inch spacing. Stainless and copper are both galvanically compatible with copper gutters. We do not use aluminum hangers, galvanized hangers, or zinc-coated fasteners on any copper install. The wrong hardware will eat through a copper gutter from the inside out in a few years.
Why is galvanic corrosion a concern with copper?
When copper touches a less noble metal (aluminum, galvanized steel, zinc) in the presence of water, the less noble metal corrodes rapidly. On a copper gutter system, that means aluminum hangers fail, galvanized fasteners fail, and the gutter itself can be pitted from the contact points. The fix is straightforward: stainless or copper hardware throughout, and isolation gaskets at any unavoidable dissimilar-metal contact.
Do you install copper half-round vs K-style?
Both. Half-round is the historically accurate profile for pre-1950s homes and is the dominant choice in Avondale, Riverside, Ortega, San Marco, and St. Augustine historic districts. K-style copper works for newer architectural homes that want copper without the historic profile. We fabricate both seamlessly on site.
Do you do soldered miters or sealed?
Soldered. Copper miters and end caps are joined with lead-free solder on every Gutter Pro install. Sealant joints fail. Soldered joints last the life of the gutter. Any contractor pitching sealed miters on copper is cutting a corner the homeowner will pay for later.
Will copper gutters work for my historic home and HOA?
Yes, and copper is typically the only material historic review boards approve without question. Avondale Historic District, Riverside Historic District, St. Augustine historic preservation, and most luxury HOAs (Old Ponte Vedra, Epping Forest, Marsh Landing, Marsh Creek) approve copper readily. How is copper installed differently from aluminum?
Three main differences. Lead time is longer (copper coil and custom fittings take two to four weeks). Hardware is exclusively stainless or copper. Joints are soldered, not sealed. Where do you fabricate copper gutters?
On site at your property, same as aluminum. The roll-forming machine rolls into your driveway, copper coil feeds through the forming machine, and the seamless run is formed to your exact roofline. Custom box copper and some half-round detail work is shop-fabricated and finished on site. Soldered miters and end caps are done on the property by the crew.
