Bulkhead Drainage and Seamless Gutters - Lagoon-Front Home, Jacksonville Beach

Location: Jacksonville Beach, FL  |  Scope: Full water-management system  |  Run time: 11:36

The Problem

A lagoon-front home in Jacksonville Beach had failing gutters and a newer bulkhead at risk. Roof water was pooling against the foundation, and the downspouts were discharging directly behind the bulkhead wall. Water trapped behind a bulkhead creates hydrostatic pressure, which is one of the leading reasons seawalls, retaining walls, and bulkheads fail years before they should.

The owner needed two things solved at once: roof water moved away from the foundation, and bulkhead pressure relieved before the wall started to fail.

What We Designed and Installed

Materials and Components

  • New 6-inch seamless aluminum gutters, custom-fabricated on site
  • Properly sized downspouts placed for actual roof flow, not builder default
  • 4-inch Schedule 40 PVC routed through the bulkhead wall
  • 5-inch NDS channel drain with removable metal grate
  • 12-inch catch basin with sump for debris control
  • 4-inch virgin HDPE drainage pipe
  • Heavy-duty FDM pop-up emitter at the daylight discharge point

Why This System Works

The 6-inch gutters move the high roof volume that a 5-inch system would overflow on a heavy NE Florida storm. The Schedule 40 PVC through the bulkhead means the pipe will not collapse or root through the way corrugated drainage does. The channel drain catches surface flow before it ever reaches the bulkhead. The catch basin pulls debris out before it reaches the daylight emitter, so the system stays open year after year.

Result

Roof water moves cleanly off the home, through the bulkhead, and out to a controlled daylight point. Hydrostatic pressure behind the wall is relieved. The bulkhead itself can do what it was built to do without water working against it.

Townhouse Flooding Fix - Queens Harbour, Jacksonville

Location: Queens Harbour, Jacksonville, FL  |  Scope: Gutters + complete underground drainage  |  Run time: 8:03

The Problem

This Queens Harbour townhouse had no real gutter system and a balcony that was taking rainwater straight off the roof. Water was running through the balcony deck and creating an ongoing risk of moisture damage, interior leaks, mold, and long-term structural and foundation problems. Townhouse roofs concentrate roof area onto a small footprint - the same storm dumps the same volume, just into a narrower discharge zone. Without engineered gutters and underground discharge, water always finds the weakest point.

What We Designed and Installed

Materials and Components

  • Custom seamless gutter system fabricated on site to fit the townhouse roofline exactly
  • Full perimeter gutter installation
  • Downspout placement designed around roof flow and balcony geometry, not convenience
  • Complete underground drainage replacement
  • Roof water routed to a discharge point away from the building

Why This System Works

Gutters alone do not solve a townhouse drainage problem. The downspout has to land in something - and on most Jacksonville townhomes, it lands on a 3-foot strip of grass between two buildings, with nowhere for the water to go. The underground drainage replacement is what actually moves the water off the property. We design the two pieces together, on one project, with one warranty.

Result

The balcony flooding stopped. Roof water is now routed cleanly underground and away from the townhouse. Foundation, structure, and exterior are protected long-term.

Why Builder Gutters Fail in 5 Years - NE Florida Homeowner Walkthrough

Type: Educational walkthrough  |  Series: Exposing Bad Installs, Episode 1  |  Run time: 2:25

Bad Install vs Real Install

This walkthrough breaks down a real improper gutter installation on a NE Florida home and shows what we replace it with. The bad install is the same one most builders default to: 5-inch sectional aluminum, no wedges for pitch, and plastic downspout components. It works for the first three or four years. Then the seams open up, the pitch fails, the plastic cracks under summer UV, and water starts coming over the front edge of the gutter onto the fascia.

What a Proper Install Looks Like

The Real Spec

  • 6-inch seamless gutter system, fabricated on site - no field seams
  • Proper wedges installed for correct pitch and structural support
  • Upgraded 3x4 all-aluminum downspouts - no plastic components
  • Splash guards added at heavy rain valleys and inside corners

This video is the first in a series Gutter Pro is publishing to show homeowners what real installation work looks like - and what to look for when they get a quote from any contractor in Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra, or the surrounding First Coast.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Projects

Are all Gutter Pro case study videos filmed on real customer projects?

Yes. Every project shown on this page is a real Gutter Pro install in Jacksonville or the surrounding Northeast Florida service area. No stock footage, no staged demos. The materials shown installed are the materials that stayed on the property.

What is the difference between a basic gutter install and a complete water-management system?

A basic gutter install moves water off the roof and out the downspout. A complete water-management system controls where the water goes after the downspout - through underground Schedule 40 PVC, channel drains, catch basins, and pop-up emitters, to a controlled discharge point away from the home. Most Jacksonville drainage problems start at the second step, not the first.

Why does Gutter Pro install 6-inch and 7-inch gutters instead of the 5-inch most builders use?

5-inch sectional gutters overflow under heavy Northeast Florida rainfall. They were designed for lower-volume storms in the Midwest. We install 6-inch seamless aluminum as our minimum standard, and 7-inch on larger roofs, steep pitches, or oak-canopy lots where debris and volume both run high. Gutter Pro does not install 5-inch on any home.

What drainage materials does Gutter Pro use underground?

Schedule 40 PVC and virgin HDPE only. We do not install corrugated black pipe underground because it collapses under soil load, silts up, and roots through within a few seasons. Schedule 40 PVC and virgin HDPE stay open for the life of the system.

Do you do drainage-only projects, or only when gutters are involved?

Both. Gutter Pro is an NDS Certified Professional Drainage Contractor. We design and install French drains, channel drains, catch basins, dry wells, sump pumps, and underground downspout extensions as standalone drainage projects, not just gutter add-ons. Many of our drainage-only projects are remediation work where another contractor's earlier install failed.

What neighborhoods has Gutter Pro worked in across Northeast Florida?

Active service area includes Jacksonville Beach, Queens Harbour, Ponte Vedra, Nocatee, St. Johns, Mandarin, San Marco, Riverside, Avondale, Ortega, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Fleming Island, Orange Park, Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island, Arlington, Julington Creek, Pablo Creek Reserve, Marsh Landing, Sawgrass Players Club, Old Ponte Vedra, The Plantation, and the surrounding First Coast.

How long does a typical Gutter Pro project take from quote to install?

Free on-site quotes are typically scheduled within 48 hours. Most residential installs are completed in a single day. Larger estate-scale projects with full drainage design take two to four working days. Owner Albert is on site for the design walk and at the key decision points during install.

Is the workmanship warranty really for life?

Yes. Gutter Pro provides a lifetime workmanship warranty on every install. LeafBlaster Pro gutter guards carry an additional 40-year manufacturer performance warranty. Manufacturer warranties on aluminum and copper materials run up to 50 years on key components.
